karlite.
We believe that sustainability should not rely on appearance alone. The visual language of recycling has become predictable, often reducing complex material stories to surface effect. We move beyond that by creating materials that feel honest, refined, and enduring. True sustainability lies in changing how we think about resources, production, and longevity, not in how visibly sustainable something appears.
your recycled, recyclable solid surface
Years of working with resins in art production taught us the value of precision, finish, and care for the full lifecycle of a material. Building on that experience, we developed a new approach using discarded car headlights as our source material. Through careful research and collaboration with pigment specialists, we found ways to achieve natural tones and soft hues while eliminating resin entirely. The result is a fully recyclable solid surface made from recycled industrial plastic waste.
properties
fully recyclable
Karlite is made from 100% recycled polycarbonate and can be reprocessed at the end of its life, ensuring it remains part of a truly circular material cycle.
UV resistance
Uncoated polycarbonate sheets typically last 5–7 years outdoors before showing signs of yellowing. With a UV-protective coating, up to 10–15 years. We do not recommend outdoor use.
fire
resistance
Polycarbonate has natural flame retardant properties, offering greater safety compared to many other recycled plastics.
suitable for wet areas
Non-porous and highly resistant to moisture, Karlite is an excellent choice for kitchens, bathroom and other environments where water is present.
heat
stability
Karlite remains stable up to around 120 °C, making it well suited for kitchens and everyday use, including contact with hot water.
we eliminated the need for backing material
Karlite is a solid surface material for architecture and design, combining durability with quiet elegance. Its 19mm thickness gives it structure and allows it to stand independently without backers. Rather than trying to look sustainable, Karlite quietly embodies a different way of thinking about materials, production and use while remaining fully recyclable.
how to order
Start by filling in our contact form with the details of your project. We review your request, advise where needed, and help shape the idea into a clear proposal. Once the project has taken form, we provide you with a non binding quotation.

karlite bespoke options
We're able to develop custom Karlite colors with different levels of translucency based on your wishes.
1. Share your reference Send us a RAL or Pantone color, a brief visual description and the desired level of translucency. Sketches, renders and moodboards help us understand the context of your project.
2. We create your samples We produce eight samples in four tonal variations of your selected color. Four are sent to you and four are archived in our material library for reference.
3. Select and refine Choose the sample that works best for your project. If adjustments are needed we repeat the process until we reach the result that fits best.
