I exist, therefore I pollute.

Our founders Marten & Joost weigh in on what it means to create sustainable design.

I exist, therefore I pollute. This simple truth is unavoidable. Every choice we make, every product we use, and every space we inhabit carries an environmental cost. When we founded Plasticiet, we refused to accept the idea that plastic is merely waste.

To us, it is a valuable natural resource that deserves to be thoughtfully reintroduced into the world. Its origins lie in nature, yet through a culture of disposability, it has been stripped of its worth. We saw an opportunity to change that. By transforming discarded plastics into durable, high-quality materials, we challenge conventional notions of luxury and sustainability.

‘‘The future of sustainable design does not rest on a single company, a single innovation, or a single solution. It demands a collective effort.”

Real change requires more than material innovation, it demands an industry- wide shift. From consumers and clients investing in true sustainable products, to designers and architects prioritizing responsible materials to contractors making waste reduction a core principle, every player has a role. We, as material developers, must push boundaries to create surfaces that are sustainable, beautiful and durable.

High-quality, responsibly made materials demand more than a passing commitment; they require belief in long-term change.

The future of sustainable design does not rest on a single company, a single innovation, or a single solution. It demands a collective effort, a willingness to challenge outdated systems, and a commitment to rethinking the way we create. We exist to prove that waste is a failure of imagination, and that design has the power to correct it.
