Sustainability
with desirability

Alongside a recycled material producer, Plasticiet is a design studio with in-house furniture fabrication. This allows us to approach projects in their entirety, from the development of custom surfaces to the creation of bespoke pieces, always balancing craftsmanship with innovation.

Circularity is not a goal, it’s a given.

Everything we create is recycled and fully recyclable, a baseline from which design can evolve freely. We aim to push sustainable design beyond its clichés, moving away from the romanticised aesthetics that often define recycled materials. Rather than relying on the visual language of waste, we focus on developing innovative design solutions where responsibility and refinement can coexist without friction or compromise.

Beauty from waste.

In our artisanal factory in Delft, discarded plastics are carefully transformed into refined, solid surfaces. Each sheet is fully recycled and made by hand with the greatest attention to detail, resulting in unique projects and durable finishes.

Plasticiet creates handcrafted solid surface materials from 100% recycled polycarbonate for architects and interior designers. Our Karlite translucent panels and Mother of Pearl iridescent surfaces provide a sustainable alternative to Corian, sustainable alternative to marble, and sustainable alternative to acrylic for commercial interior materials and hospitality projects.

Made in the Netherlands since 2016, our specification grade materials combine circular economy principles with luxury aesthetic. From retail interior materials for Jil Sander and Ace & Tate to hospitality interior materials worldwide, Plasticiet solid surface sheets deliver architectural panels that are fully recyclable, self-supporting, and uniquely handcrafted.

Plasticiet vs traditional solid surfaces

Karlite vs Corian

Karlite

- 100% Recycled polycarbonate and fully circular.
- Translucent, works beautifully when backlit.
- Every sheet is subtly unique handcrafted.
- Made locally in the Netherlands.

Corian

- Virgin acrylic petroleum-based materials.
- Opaque, so not light transmission possible.
- Uniform industrial consistency.
- Manufactured in Asia with global distribution.

Karlite vs resin

Karlite

- Fully recyclable thermoplastic.
- Minimal toxic fumes during production, safe workshop environment.
- Fire rated (HB) with natural flame retardant properties.
- Non-porous, stain resistant, easy to clean, scratch resistant and impact resistant.

Resin

- Virgin petroleum thermoset, cannot be recycled.
- Strong chemical odors and VOC emissions during curing.
- Flammable material requiring careful fire safety measures.
- Prone to scratches, can yellow over time and is brittle under impact.

Mother of Pearl vs marble

Mother of Pearl

- Handcrafted from recycled polycarbonate, resulting in a unique pattern with each sheet.
- Lightweight: 18kg vs 60-100kg per m2. Lower carbon emission during transport and easier installation.
- Fully recyclable, no quarrying impact on the landscape.
- Contemporary finish that’s impossible to reach in natural stone.

Marble

- Quarried natural material with classic prestige, but with irreversible landscape impact.
- Requires speialized equipment for handling due to its heavy weight.
- Hard to recycle, and high carbon emissions through global shipping.
- Natural appearance and a direct reflection of its origin.
