Who we are
Marten and Joost studied together at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam from 2013 to 2017. During this time they began developing the concept for Plasticiet by reflecting on future value streams and problematic waste materials.
Plastic waste stood out as main candidate because it could be recycled, yet lacked the infrastructure to support this. Today it still causes significant harm to life across the globe. Plasticiet was born from the desire to be part of the solution.
We transform plastic waste into high-value material with the aim to enable recycling at scale, while ensuring that what we made lasts. In doing so we avoid the creation of yet another disposable.
Experimentation has been the common thread sewn through Plasticiet’s existence. Around 2014 Marten and Joost began melting plastic bags in toaster irons, a humble start that over the years evolved into a full production line.
At present Plasticiet produces some of the most refined recycled solid surfaces in the market. We supply fashion brands, car manufacturers, art galleries and museums with solid surface sheet materials, artworks and designs. We do this firmly rooted in experimentation and through close collaboration.
