Budapest-based designer Sarolta Huttl's first furniture collection, the NANO Stool, pairs natural materials with Karlite, Plasticiet's fully recycled, translucent solid surface. Inspired by a traditional Hungarian milking stool from her grandparents' modernist lake house, the design reinterprets the classic three-legged form for today.
The first prototype sets an oiled oak or walnut seat on three slender Karlite legs in three colors, contrasting warm wood with Karlite's cool, resin-like glow. A second, heavier version doubles as a side table, its thickened Karlite legs giving it a brutalist stillness.
About two years ago, I began experimenting with resin - a material full of potential, yet one that made me increasingly uncomfortable because of its environmental impact. This led me to search for more sustainable alternatives, and I eventually discovered Karlite by Plasticiet which is a fully recycled, solid, translucent material that visually sits somewhere between resin, onyx marble and wax - Studio Sarolta Huttl, 2026
